Fairness Pennsylvania announces hiring of new leader

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Fairness Pennsylvania today announced the hiring of Chris Kalcich as the organization’s new State Director, bringing with him a record of community leadership, advocacy, and statewide organizing experience to the role.

Kalcich, who was born and raised in Pennsylvania, has spent his career working on community engagement, political organizing, and diversity initiatives across the Commonwealth. He currently serves as Vice President of the Pennsylvania Young Democrats, where he works to strengthen outreach and organizing efforts among young voters and leaders throughout the state.

“Chris has a deep understanding of what’s at stake for LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians, and he has a strong commitment to fairness and opportunity for everyone,” said Fairness Pennsylvania C4 Board Chair, Nat Yap. “His experience organizing and building coalitions across the Commonwealth will be invaluable as we continue advancing equality for our community. He knows how to win in rural areas, and he’s the right person to lead our organization into the next chapter.”

As state director, Kalcich will lead Fairness Pennsylvania’s statewide advocacy, coalition-building, and public education work aimed at advancing equality for LGBTQ+ people across the Commonwealth.

Kalcich’s commitment to LGBTQ+ advocacy began early. While still in high school, he successfully advocated for his school board to adopt policies allowing transgender students to access restrooms, locker rooms, and athletics consistent with their gender identity.

“Equality doesn’t happen by accident,” Kalcich said. “It happens because people organize, advocate, and refuse to give up on the idea that fairness belongs to everyone. Growing up in this state, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our community faces, but I’ve also seen the strength of our community. I’m proud to join Fairness Pennsylvania in continuing the work to secure full equality for our community.”

In addition to his statewide organizing work, Kalcich serves as Chairman of the Snyder County Democratic Committee, where he manages volunteers, coordinates outreach programs, and leads fundraising and digital organizing efforts. Kalcich studied at Susquehanna University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, and is now pursuing a Master’s degree in Diversity Leadership at the University of St. Thomas. He was also named to Inside PA Magazine’s 30 under 30 list in 2024 for his leadership and community impact.
